Rumbek, South Sudan – In a significant step toward strengthening democratic processes in the world’s youngest nation, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has provided essential equipment to the State High Electoral Committee in Lakes, South Sudan.

The donation, which includes computers, printers, and an uninterruptible power supply, aims to enhance the committee’s capacity to ensure free, fair, and credible elections as the country prepares for its first-ever democratic polls.

Raoul Irenge, a representative from the UNMISS Field Office in Rumbek, emphasized the importance of this support. “This equipment will strengthen the committee’s readiness as South Sudan prepares to hold its first democratic elections,” Irenge stated. The provision of modern technology is expected to streamline electoral processes, improve data management, and bolster transparency, all critical components of electoral integrity.

The initiative aligns with the broader goal of fostering peace and stability in South Sudan, where democratic milestones are seen as vital to sustainable development. By equipping the State High Electoral Committee with reliable tools, UNMISS is helping to lay the foundation for a credible electoral process that reflects the will of the South Sudanese people.
