Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 72 people in Gaza, many women and children, following a ceasefire agreement announced on Wednesday.
Gaza’s Health Ministry warns the death toll is likely higher, as bombardment continued overnight during celebrations of the anticipated truce.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Hamas for delaying the ceasefire, citing a “last-minute crisis” over the agreement.
Hamas, however, insists it remains committed to the deal, which promises the release of hostages and prisoners, and humanitarian aid for Gaza’s devastated population.
